Why we’re thinking so hard about caregivers:
We don’t tend to talk about it, often because caregiving is a private, personal endeavor, but we could and we should be talking about caregiving because there are a LOT of us out here!
Right now in the United States:
There are 44 million of us caregiving.
The value of our unpaid labor is $470 billion!
We have twice the likelihood of developing a chronic illness, twice the rate of depression, and we average over twenty hours a week providing care for our loved ones.
84% of us report a negative impact to our state of mind.
This doesn’t mean we are complaining.
And these negative side effects from caregiving are nothing to be ashamed of.
They are real, and there are things we are doing to make it better.
